I am very excited to announce that my Ujima Baby Hat has been published in Inside Crochet‘s April 2011 Issue 16!

This little hat was inspired by a Partners in Health hospital in Rwanda, where doctors requested hat donations to help keep newborns warm and healthy, improving their chances for survival. This need has been identified by many hospitals worldwide. To donate your own hat, please visit hotheadknitters.blogspot.com, www.pih.org, or www.goodgoes.org/caps. (Note: Due to logistical constraints, hats donations are only accepted at certain times of year, so please check online before mailing.)

Published in three sizes from premies to toddlers, Ujima is one of seven Wild Bird Song baby hat designs inspired by Partners in Health, each named for one of the Seven Principles celebrated by many descendants of the African diaspora. The word “ujima” means “community responsibility” in Swahili. Stay tuned for the other six patterns, coming soon!
